Demand for health informatics professionals at an all-time high: report
Demand for healthcare professionals has been on the rise since the Covid-19 pandemic with increased demand for healthcare professionals noted in various specialist roles, according to a report by Spectrum Talent Management. Demand for health informatics professionals is also at an all-time high, according to the report.
The top five categories that saw the most hires are medical coders, nurses, lab technicians, biotechnologists, and API experts. Professionals are hired equally in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Vadodara have recorded the highest number of hires.
Overall, a 20 percent increase was identified in external hiring in the healthcare segment, particularly for nurses. There has been a strong growth in hiring activity over the past six months in cities of various tiers like Kolkata, Vadodara, Kochi and Bengaluru among others. This is an 80/20 mix of permanent hires and contract hires.
Sidharth Agarwal, Director of Spectrum Talent Management, said: “The increase in hiring of healthcare professionals is not surprising, we have been expecting this trend since the start of the pandemic. With the added pressure on medical infrastructure in the past and the future to come, the understaffed healthcare sector has gained much needed attention.
“This will lead to a steady increase in demand for the roles of registered nurses, laboratory technologists and technicians, epidemiologists, research associates, API experts and biotechnologists over the next few years,” said said Agarwal.
“Other functional roles such as IT specialists, communication specialists, digital health experts will also see a spike in hiring. The experience with Covid-19 has renewed attention on the healthcare industry with increased budget, more hiring etc. This trend is not only taking place in India but also across the globe,” he added.
